Episode 8: Morning Comes

Season 2 November 18th, 2007

Dexter, Lila and Deb are all living together and Lila and Deb can’t stand each other. Deb is actually a good judge of character, it seems.

Deb and Lundy have their official “first date” where Lundy cooks for her. I still don’t really see this going anywhere, in fact I can see Lundy pissing off everyone in the department, especially Deb, and that will end it. Just a hunch.

Dexter suspects that Lila started the fire in her apartment herself, and later on she steals Dexter’s key to Rita’s apartment, after she called the guy who killed his mother and told him where Dexter was. So basically Lila messed up about 3 different ways this week. And Dexter is realizing that Lila is both dangerous and a psycho, but not the good kind of psycho like he is, she is just plain paranoid and nuts. And the ending part where Dexter tells her to stay away from him or she will “see the monster” is the best. I figure she will cross the line before the season is out and then end up in the bottom of the ocean.

Finally Dexter kills the man who killed his mother and he hacks him up with a chain saw. Fitting.

Cliffhanger:
Doakes finds Dexter’s blood collection inside of the window A/C unit in Dexter’s apartment. My prediction is that somehow, with Doake’s suspension, Dexter will frame him as the Bay Harbor Butcher. It is going to be interesting to see what happens with that next week.

I agree, Doakes is setting himself up. What’s he going to do, actually take the blood stains back to his own place, and get caught with it? Like anyone is going to believe he found it at Dexter’s after his latest (mis)behavior?

    Thanks for your good blog.

I was thinking the same thing about Dexter setting up Doakes as the bay harbor killer. Doakes is on edge and has a mysterious air about him that people see. People don’t see who dexter really is. I belive that doakes can’t and won’t go to the police with the “box of blood”. He just can’t explain how he came across it without implicating himself. Hes got his own personal vendetta against Dexter and probably will wait in the shadows for him. given what dexter said in the mini van while he was on his way to kill his moms killer… he was sharp. All his senses were in sync. So Doakes might think he has the edge… but not to get the best of Dexter. Its going to be an exciting last 3/4 episodes. Thanks for this blog.

John, you might be right. Go to http://www.sho.com and watch the preview for next week, though. It’s like they found someone and Dexter is worried that it is him. But that is probably just the writers setting up suspence for next week. I am excited to see what is going to happen in the next ep!

We were discussing this earlier but I wonder if instead Dexter will set up Doakes so that it looks like Doakes was setting him up. I think that’s a more logical outcome because it’s not as impactful as Doakes being set up as the actual killer. And the way Doakes has been acting lately, no one will hesitate to believe the notion that he is trying to set Dexter up, therefore it will be almost too easy.

I wondered if Dexter was going to kill Lila, but right now I don’t see it, though if she had hurt Rita or the kids, I’d feel differently. I think she may get caught in some kind of crossfire and die that way, or perhaps just go away. She’s just nuts. I never liked her, and now I see why. Perhaps I am a good judge of character, same as Deb! :D

I don’t see Deb and Lundy together at all. Even without the age difference, they just don’t fit. She’s loud and crass, and he’s mellow and stable. I don’t see the attraction at all, and I suspect it will be very soon that she gets sick of him just like the rest of the department.

I agree with Emily that it would be easier for Dex to just try to show that Doakes was setting him up. Doakes would have access to the blood of the victims in some way or another, and he certainly has acted very suspiciously as of late.

As far as Lila, I’m hoping Dex will find that her ex-boyfriend is not the only one she’s “burned” in the past. Like the saying goes, “If you love someone, set them on fire.” I think she’s “loved” a lot of people in her past, and needs to be sent into the Gulf Stream.
